Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
A 1787 New Jersey copper variety where the second U in PLURIBUS is engraved over an S. This over-letter correction indicates the die sinker initially cut the wrong letter and corrected it, leaving traces of both. Such corrections are evidence of the handmade nature of colonial dies.
Rarity Notes
Scarce. Over-letter varieties provide insight into die production methods.
