Description

An extremely rare silver striking of the St. Patrick Farthing. While the standard issue is copper with a brass plug, this variety was struck entirely in silver (approximately 92% Ag). Only about 50 specimens are known, making it one of the rarest colonial American coins. The silver farthings retain the same design as the copper issue — King David with harp on the obverse and St. Patrick driving serpents on the reverse — but feature a reeded edge unlike the plain edge of the copper version. These be presentation or special issue pieces rather than coins intended for general circulation.

Rarity Notes

R.5. Approximately 50 known specimens. Struck in silver rather than copper. Be presentation or special issue pieces.
