Description

The unique gold striking of the St. Patrick Farthing, weighing 184.9 grains (approximately 11.99 grams). This is the only known specimen struck in gold and represents one of the most important colonial American numismatic rarities. The coin retains the standard St. Patrick design — King David with harp on the obverse and St. Patrick driving serpents on the reverse — but in gold rather than the typical copper. It features a reeded edge. The gold farthing was struck as a presentation piece or special pattern. It was last sold at a Stack's auction in 2005 for $184,000.
