(No Date) Civil War Store Card F-NL-18a
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Civil War store card cataloged as Fuld NL-18a in the Location Unknown section. This token is listed as "NL" (not listed) in the Fuld store card reference: it was not in the edition used to catalog it. The copper composition ensured this token closely matched the weight, size, and color of federal Indian Head cents, facilitating acceptance in daily transactions. The absence of a date is common for Civil War tokens, which were produced during the 1862-1864 coin shortage era. Civil War tokens circulated as emergency cent substitutes throughout the Northern states during 1862-1864, filling the gap left by hoarded federal coinage.
