Description

The 2025 (S) Proof Ida B. Wells Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 165,809 silver proof Ida B. Wells quarters dated 2025. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. The reverse shows a portrait of Ida B. Wells looking ahead. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IDA B. WELLS, 25 CENTS and JOURNALIST, SUFFRAGIST, CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. Investigative journalist, suffragist, and civil rights activist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the 1890s and co-founded the NAACP. Final year of the program, featuring Ida B. Wells, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, Juliette Gordon Low, and Althea Gibson. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $28 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 6.34 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
