Description

The 2025 (S) Proof Dr. Vera Rubin Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 165,809 silver proof Vera Rubin quarters dated 2025. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. The reverse shows Dr. Vera Rubin in profile, looking up, with a spiral galaxy and other celestial bodies around her and DARK MATTER inscribed at the bottom. The other inscriptions are DR. VERA RUBIN, QUARTER DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Astronomer whose pioneering observations of galaxy rotation rates provided key evidence for the existence of dark matter. Final year of the program, featuring Ida B. Wells, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, Juliette Gordon Low, and Althea Gibson. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $28 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 6.34 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
