Description

The 2024 (P) American Innovation Dollar - Maine, Position A is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 512,025 examples, making this ranked 11th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors Dr. Bernard Lown, a Lewiston-based cardiologist who developed the direct current defibrillator in 1962 to correct fatal heart rhythms and chose not to patent it so millions worldwide could benefit.
