The U.S. Mint produced 61,847 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 24 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors the Higgins Boat (LCVP) designed by New Orleans industrialist Andrew Higgins, whose landing craft enabled amphibious invasions across World War II — a vessel Eisenhower credited as one of the tools that won the war. Ohio (the James Webb Space Telescope), Indiana (auto racing — Indianapolis Motor Speedway), Mississippi (the first human lung transplant — Dr. James Hardy), and Illinois (the steel plow — John Deere). As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value is approximately $10. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #934402.
