Description

Part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series, the 2023 (D) Native American Dollar - Position B is a dollar from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint's figure of 1.1 million covers every 2023-D Native American dollar, whichever way the edge lettering faces; how many are Position B is not known. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2023 Native American Dollar honors prima ballerina Maria Tallchief of the Osage Nation and American Indians in ballet. The reverse shows Tallchief in a balletic pose with a lunar motif representing the "Five Moons" — five Oklahoma-born Native American ballerinas. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916352.
