Description
The 2022 (S) Proof American Innovation Dollar - Tennessee is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 86,195 examples, making this ranked 0th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 1% of production. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors the Tennessee Valley Authority, established in 1933, which brought electricity, flood control, and economic development to one of the nation's most impoverished regions during the Great Depression. Rhode Island (yacht design — Nathanael Herreshoff), Vermont (snowboarding — Jake Burton Carpenter), Kentucky (bluegrass music), and Tennessee (the Tennessee Valley Authority — transforming rural electrification). As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors.
