Description
The 2022 (D) American Innovation Dollar - Rhode Island, Position B is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 453,775 examples, making this ranked 9th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors Nathanael Herreshoff, the Bristol-based naval architect whose innovative yacht designs dominated America's Cup racing and advanced yacht engineering in the early 1900s. Rhode Island (yacht design — Nathanael Herreshoff), Vermont (snowboarding — Jake Burton Carpenter), Kentucky (bluegrass music), and Tennessee (the Tennessee Valley Authority — transforming rural electrification).
