Description

A dollar from the Philadelphia Mint, the 2022 (P) American Innovation Dollar - Rhode Island, Position B belongs to the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint reported 454,150 Rhode Island dollars from Philadelphia across both edge orientations; the number struck with Position B lettering is unknown. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors Nathanael Herreshoff, the Bristol-based naval architect whose innovative yacht designs dominated America's Cup racing and advanced yacht engineering in the early 1900s. Rhode Island (yacht design — Nathanael Herreshoff), Vermont (snowboarding — Jake Burton Carpenter), Kentucky (bluegrass music), and Tennessee (the Tennessee Valley Authority — transforming rural electrification).
