Description

Another entry in the WDDO-002 attribution family for 2019 America the Beautiful quarters, this variety exhibits the characteristic significant extra thickness on RTY of LIBERTY that defines the group. The Wexler Team documented the obverse die in very late die state (VLDS) condition, with particularly severe die deterioration doubling on QUARTER DOLLAR and no noteworthy reverse diagnostics. The recurring appearance of this attribution across multiple ATB quarter designs from 2019 reflects how a single obverse hub doubling event at the master die or working hub level can propagate into multiple working dies used for different reverse designs within the same production year. John Flanagan's Washington portrait, standardized across all quarter denominations, means the LIBERTY inscription and other obverse elements remain constant regardless of which commemorative reverse design is paired with it — creating the possibility for the same obverse doubled die characteristics to appear on quarters bearing different state or national park reverse designs. The cross-reference documentation again notes the photographic confusion between this variety and a 2001-P North Carolina quarter with die deterioration doubling that occurred in Wexler's Coin World column, a now-corrected error that nonetheless underscores the difficulty of visually distinguishing genuine hub doubling from advanced deterioration effects in published format. The VLDS die state means collectors must exercise particular care in attribution, as the heavy die wear compounds the challenge of isolating the genuine RTY doubling from the broader deterioration effects. Wexler Variety ID: 2019-P 25¢ NMI WDDO-002 serves as the authoritative catalog reference.
