Description

The 2016 (S) Native American Dollar - Code Talkers Enhanced Coin & Currency Set is a special strike dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 50,740 of these for the 2016 Coin and Currency set. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2016 Native American Dollar honors Native American code talkers from both World Wars who used their tribal languages to transmit unbreakable military communications. The reverse shows two military helmets with two feathers forming a "V" for victory. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $30 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #608043.
