Description
The 2016 (P) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 4.3 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 24% of total production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The 2016 Native American Dollar honors Native American code talkers from both World Wars who used their tribal languages to transmit unbreakable military communications. The reverse shows two military helmets with two feathers forming a "V" for victory. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #598516.
