2014 (D) Lincoln Shield Cent - SKH-1c-2014D-02 Spiked Head

Paired with the -01 entry, SKH-1c-2014D-02 is in the catalog of spiked heads from the 2014 Denver Mint Lincoln Shield Cent. The spiked head forms the same way regardless of mint facility: a crack opens in the obverse die and runs from the rim into Lincoln's bust. Subsequent strikes produce coins with a raised spike on Lincoln's portrait. The D mintmark provides definitive facility attribution and distinguishes this variety from all Philadelphia-minted spiked heads. Cataloged by Cuds on Coins on September 17, 2016, approximately one month after the -01 entry, the rapid succession of these two discoveries suggests they may have been found during a concentrated period of 2014-D cent searching.
