About This Coin

The 2013 American Buffalo Gold Fifty Dollar is a United States $50 gold coin from the American Buffalo Gold 2006 to Date series. In 2013 the Mint sold 239,000 one-ounce bullion coins, by its calendar-year sales figures, and the West Point Mint struck 18,594 proofs and 47,836 reverse proofs. The obverse features James Earle Fraser's Native American portrait from the 1913 Buffalo nickel, which Fraser said combined the features of three chiefs, Iron Tail, Two Moons and Big Tree, and the reverse displays his American bison standing on a mound. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 31.11 grams, 32.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by James Earle Fraser.
