Description
The 2013 (W) American Buffalo .9999 Fine Gold Fifty Dollar was struck at the West Point Mint as a gold coin in the American Buffalo Gold 2006 to Date series. The Mint sold 239,000 one-ounce American Buffalo bullion coins in 2013, by its calendar-year sales figures; it publishes no count by date for these years. The obverse features James Earle Fraser's Native American portrait from the 1913 Buffalo nickel, which Fraser said combined the features of three chiefs, Iron Tail, Two Moons and Big Tree, and the reverse displays his American bison standing on a mound. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 31.11 grams, 32.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #516502.
