Description
The 2010 (P) Presidential Dollar - Franklin Pierce, Position B is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 38.2 million examples, making this ranked 9th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourteenth President (1853–1857), Franklin Pierce is the only president to have recited his inaugural address entirely from memory. His signing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 inflamed sectional tensions over slavery and contributed to the bloodshed of "Bleeding Kansas." Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. The Lincoln dollar drew strong collector interest due to the president's enduring popularity, but overall circulation demand continued to decline. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #417250.
