2010 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

Doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty identifies this Wexler-attributed WDDR-002 on the 2010 Philadelphia Mint Presidential Dollar honoring Millard Fillmore, the thirteenth President. This particular specimen carries Position B edge lettering, meaning the incused edge inscriptions — date, mint mark, and E PLURIBUS UNUM — read normally when the obverse faces up, a distinction introduced in 2009 to standardize edge inscription orientation. The Statue of Liberty reverse, designed by Don Everhart, served as the common reverse for all Presidential Dollars from 2007 through 2016. Die markers aid attribution: on the obverse, a die gouge appears below the 5 in 1850 (Fillmore's inaugural year) and another gouge sits to the left of the left point of the bust. On the reverse, a short nearly vertical die scratch can be found between the tops of the T and E in STATES. Fillmore assumed the presidency upon Zachary Taylor's death in 1850 and served until 1853.
