Description
The 2009 (P) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 39.8 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing forward in a three-quarter view, the first forward-facing portrait on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays Monticello in a refined depiction. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407252.
