Description

Part of the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series, the 2009 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 46.8 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 54% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing forward in a three-quarter view, the first forward-facing portrait on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays Monticello in a refined depiction. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407256.
