Description
The 2009 (P) District of Columbia Satin Finish Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the DC & US Territories Quarters 2009 series. The U.S. Mint produced 784,614 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 36 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $100 SP69 01-20-2019 eBay. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #406598.
