The Position B designation indicates the edge lettering reads in the opposite orientation relative to the obverse compared to Position A specimens — a distinction unique to the Presidential Dollar series where the date, mintmark, and E PLURIBUS UNUM were incused on the edge rather than the face. Pre-cuds on Presidential Dollars are particularly interesting because the three-strike production process (obverse/reverse, then edge lettering) subjected dies to different stress patterns than conventional two-die striking.
