Description
The 2007 (D) Satin Finish Jefferson Nickel is a special strike nickel struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 895,628 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing forward in a three-quarter view, the first forward-facing portrait on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays Monticello in a refined depiction. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $159 SP69 07-29-2021 eBay. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #149713.
