Description
This large 76mm bronze medal honoring the 14th Dalai Lama is the full-size version of the Congressional Gold Medal duplicate, providing a substantially larger canvas for the artistic tribute to one of the world's most revered spiritual leaders. The 76mm format allows for more detailed portraiture and expanded inscriptions compared to the smaller versions, presenting the Dalai Lama's likeness with the depth and nuance that his significance as a global moral leader warrants. The obverse presents a detailed portrait of the Dalai Lama in the 76mm format, capturing the features of a leader who has spent more than six decades in exile while maintaining an unwavering commitment to nonviolent advocacy for Tibetan rights. His philosophy of universal compassion and responsibility, which he has articulated through hundreds of books, lectures, and interfaith dialogues, has made him a unique figure in modern history — simultaneously a political leader, religious teacher, and international peace advocate. The large format medal does justice to this multifaceted legacy. The reverse carries the full Congressional Gold Medal inscriptions and design elements. The 76mm bronze duplicate serves as the collector version of the actual gold medal presented to the Dalai Lama, which weighed approximately 16 ounces of .9999 fine gold. The Dalai Lama joined a select group of foreign leaders and humanitarians who have received the Congressional Gold Medal, including Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, and Pope John Paul II, placing him in the company of the most honored international figures in American legislative history.
