Description
The 2004 (P) Iowa State Quarter is a quarter minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 213.8 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 12 mint variants, representing only 7% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features a one-room schoolhouse with a teacher and students planting a tree, inspired by Grant Wood's painting, with the inscription "Foundation in Education." The design celebrates Iowa's deep commitment to education. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties (High Leaf and Low Leaf) became the most famous State Quarter errors. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #14030.
