The 2003 First Flight Centennial Commemorative Dollar is a United States dollar from the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. In 2003, the Philadelphia Mint struck 243,773 of these dollars, uncirculated and proof together, by the Mint's figures. The obverse shows Orville and Wilbur Wright and the reverse the 1903 Flyer over the dunes at Kill Devil Hill. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by T. James Ferrell/Norman E. Nemeth.
