Description

The 2002 (W) West Point Dollar was struck at the West Point Mint as a dollar in the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 103,201 examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. West Point's facility evolved from a bullion storage depot into a key coin production center, now responsible for many commemorative and precious-metal issues. Auction record: $460 MS65 11-08-2007 David Lawrence RC. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #21000.
