Fifth documented reverse rim cud on the 2002 Philadelphia Mint Indiana State Quarter, CU-25c-2002P-05R(IN) extends the catalog of die rim failures on this State Quarters program issue. A rim cud forms when a piece of the die rim breaks away entirely, leaving a cavity that fills with metal during striking and creates a raised featureless mass at the coin's edge. The "R" confirms the fracture occurred on the reverse die bearing the Indiana design — the race car, state outline, 19 stars, and "Crossroads of America" motto.
