The 2000 (W) Proof Sacagawea Dollar - 22kt Gold is a proof dollar struck at the West Point Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse shows Thomas D. Rogers Sr.'s soaring eagle. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original design by Thomas D. Rogers Sr. was used for all Sacagawea dollars from 2000 through 2008. First year of the Sacagawea Dollar. The "Cheerios Dollar" variety, with detailed tail feathers, comes from coins distributed in Cheerios cereal boxes. Glenna Goodacre was paid her $5,000 fee in 5,000 specially finished 2000-P dollars. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 22-karat gold.
