Description

The 2000 (W) Proof Sacagawea Dollar - 22kt Gold is a proof dollar struck at the West Point Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. With a mintage of only 39, this is an extremely rare issue. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back, while the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. Designed by Glenna Goodacre/Thomas D. Rogers Sr.. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #508062. The Sacagawea Dollar (2000-2008) honored the Shoshone woman who guided the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The 2000-P "Cheerios Dollar" variety (different tail feather detail) is a valuable modern rarity. The Glenna Goodacre Presentation Dollars (in 22-karat gold finish) are extremely rare.
