Description
The 2000 (D) Sacagawea Dollar - Mule with South Carolina is a unique mint error from the Denver Mint: a Sacagawea dollar obverse struck with a South Carolina state quarter reverse. It is the opposite of the pairing on the better-known 2000-P mule, which has a Washington quarter obverse and a Sacagawea reverse. The obverse shows Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste, by Glenna Goodacre, with the D mint mark; the reverse is the South Carolina design from the 50 State Quarters program. Heritage Auctions catalogued the coin as unique when it made its first auction appearance in December 2022, graded MS64 by PCGS, and it sold for $66,000. As the only known example it has no range of values by grade. Cataloged as PCGS #893257.
