The 2000 (P) Sacagawea Dollar - Wounded Eagle represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint struck 767.1 million Sacagawea dollars at Philadelphia in 2000 in all; how many came from the Wounded Eagle die is not recorded. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse shows Thomas D. Rogers Sr.'s soaring eagle. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original design by Thomas D. Rogers Sr. was used for all Sacagawea dollars from 2000 through 2008. First year of the Sacagawea Dollar. The "Cheerios Dollar" variety, with detailed tail feathers, comes from coins distributed in Cheerios cereal boxes. Glenna Goodacre was paid her $5,000 fee in 5,000 specially finished 2000-P dollars. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #506153.
