Description

The 2000 (P) Sacagawea Dollar - VIP Strike is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. No official count of the Philadelphia VIP strikes was published; CoinWeek puts the number at about 600. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse shows Thomas D. Rogers Sr.'s soaring eagle. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original design by Thomas D. Rogers Sr. was used for all Sacagawea dollars from 2000 through 2008. First year of the Sacagawea Dollar. The "Cheerios Dollar" variety, with detailed tail feathers, comes from coins distributed in Cheerios cereal boxes. Glenna Goodacre was paid her $5,000 fee in 5,000 specially finished 2000-P dollars. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which has operated since 1792. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
