Description

The 1999 (P) New Jersey State Quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a quarter in the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 363,200,000 New Jersey quarters dated 1999. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The reverse recreates Emanuel Leutze's famous painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776, with the inscription "Crossroads of the Revolution." This design honors New Jersey's pivotal role in the American Revolution. The program's first five quarters, issued in 1999, honored in release order Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. The program instantly became the most successful numismatic initiative in U.S. history. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $6 depending on grade and condition.
