Description

Notable as the first reported silver proof coin with a hub doubled mint mark, this 1992-S Kennedy Half Dollar DDO-001 displays a medium spread affecting WE TRUST, the S mint mark, and the 92 of the date. Cross-referenced as FS-101, the variety is well established in the Cherrypickers guide and widely recognized by attribution services. Die markers include UVC-293 and DMR-003. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The 1992-S silver proof Kennedy was part of the Premier Silver Proof Set, the first year the Mint offered proof coins struck on ninety-percent silver planchets since 1964. Hub doubling on proof dies is uncommon because proof dies receive fewer impressions and undergo closer quality control than their business strike counterparts, making this variety a significant find for Kennedy Half Dollar specialists.
