The 1984 (D) Proof Los Angeles Olympiad Commemorative Ten Dollar Gold is a proof ten-dollar gold coin struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Ten Dollar Gold (1984-2003) series. The Denver Mint struck 34,533 proof Los Angeles Olympiad ten-dollar gold coins dated 1984. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Struck in 90% gold, 6% silver, 4% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 26.92 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9615.
