Description

Attributed by the Wexler team and cross-referenced across four major cataloging systems, 1984-D WDDO-001 is a comprehensively documented doubled die obverse of the 1984 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent. The doubling shows strong spread towards center on the date and right half of the bottom of the bust, with closer spread on IN GOD WE TRUST and extra thickness on LIBERTY. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-II+VI, Cherrypickers' Guide FS-01-1984D-101 (039), Coppercoins 1984D-1DO-002, and Wexler 1984-D 1¢ WDDO-001. The FS-101 (039) cross-reference confirms this is the same die as DDO-002 — a convergence of independent attributions that strengthens confidence in the identification. Obverse die markers include a short diagonal gouge north of the E in LIBERTY. Reverse markers include a gouge at the right base of the 12th column and thin die cracks on the upper 9th and 12th columns. These reverse markers are especially useful for confirming the die pair when obverse doubling alone might be ambiguous in lower grades. Denver produced approximately 5.57 billion cents in 1984 on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams.
