Description
Companion to CU-1C-1982-35A, the "B" designation on CU-1C-1982-35B indicates a later die state — the same working die, the same rim fracture, but captured at a more advanced stage of deterioration after additional thousands of strikes expanded the break. Comparing 35A and 35B side by side reveals the die's progressive failure: the break in 35B is wider, the displaced metal more pronounced, and the boundary between the cud and the surviving design field less sharply defined. This kind of die state progression documentation is valuable to die failure researchers because it provides a before-and-after record of how cracks propagate under continued coining pressure. Together, 35A and 35B illustrate that cuds are not static features but dynamic failures that evolve throughout a die's remaining service life. Attribution by Cuds on Coins.
