Description

The 1980 (S) Susan B. Anthony Dollar is a dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars 1979-1999 series. With a mintage of 20.4 million, this is a less common issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 23% of total production. The obverse features Susan B. Anthony facing right, the first woman depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon, adapted from the Apollo 11 mission patch. Production dropped sharply as the coin's unpopularity became evident. Vending machine operators were among the few advocates for continued production. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $14 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9576.
