Description
The 1980 (D) Susan B. Anthony Dollar is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars 1979-1999 series. With a mintage of 41.6 million, this is a less common issue β the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 46% of the year's production. The obverse features Susan B. Anthony facing right, the first woman depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon, adapted from the Apollo 11 mission patch. Production dropped sharply as the coin's unpopularity became evident. Vending machine operators were among the few advocates for continued production. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $7 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9575.
