CU-10c-1980D-01R Cud

Description

Cataloged as the first documented cud on the 1980 Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime, CU-10c-1980D-01R preserves raised featureless metal where a fragment of the die rim broke away during production. When a piece of the die rim separates completely, the resulting cavity fills with metal under striking pressure, producing the smooth raised mass that defines a cud. The R suffix indicates this cud formed on the reverse die. Cross-referenced as RCD-80D-1R, this variety is part of the systematic Roosevelt Dime cud catalog maintained by Cuds on Coins. The 1980-D was struck during the copper-nickel clad era that began in 1965, replacing the 90% silver composition of earlier Roosevelt Dimes.
