Description
The 1979 (P) Susan B. Anthony Dollar - Wide Rim is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars 1979-1999 series. The U.S. Mint produced 360.2 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 32% of production. The obverse features Susan B. Anthony facing right, the first woman depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon, adapted from the Apollo 11 mission patch. First year of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar — the first circulating U.S. coin to depict a real woman. The 1979-P Wide Rim (Near Date) variety is scarcer than the standard Narrow Rim. Public rejection was immediate due to confusion with the quarter. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $3 to $150 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #99571.
