Description
The 1976 (S) Silver Washington Quarter is a quarter minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Bicentennial Coins 1976 series. The U.S. Mint produced 11 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features the standard obverse for each denomination with dual dates 1776-1976 and the reverse displays special reverse designs: Colonial drummer boy (quarter), Independence Hall (half dollar), Liberty Bell and Moon (dollar). Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $13 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 40% silver, 60% copper, weighing 5.75 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5898.
