Description
The 1976 (S) Proof Silver Kennedy Half Dollar is a proof cent struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Bicentennial Coins 1976 series. Total mintage reached 4 million. The obverse features the standard obverse for each denomination with dual dates 1776-1976, while the reverse displays special reverse designs: Colonial drummer boy (quarter), Independence Hall (half dollar), Liberty Bell and Moon (dollar). Designed by Gilroy Roberts/Frank Gasparro. Struck in outer layers - 80% silver, 20% copper; center - 79% copper, 21% silver, weighing 11.5 grams, 31 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6812. The 1976 Bicentennial Coins celebrated the 200th anniversary of American independence. Among the most recognized modern U.S. coins. The 40% silver versions in both proof and uncirculated finishes are collectible. Billions of clad versions were struck for circulation.
