Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 1974 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Aluminum is part of the Lincoln Memorial Cents 1959-2008 series. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right and the reverse displays the Lincoln Memorial building in Washington, D.C. Congress rejected the aluminum cent proposal. It was an experimental piece and was never released; an example found in 2014 among the coins of a former Denver Mint deputy superintendent was surrendered to the Mint in March 2016. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Struck in aluminum, weighing 0.93 grams, 19.05 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #522941.
