The 1974 (D) Kennedy Half Dollar is a half dollar from the Denver Mint, belonging to the Kennedy Half Dollars Clad and Silver Proof 1971 to Date series. The Denver Mint struck 79,066,300 half dollars dated 1974. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal — a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
