CU-10c-1968D-01 Rim Cud

Description

Cataloged by Cuds on Coins with RDC file numbers from the Thurman and Margolis Cud Book, this 1968-D Roosevelt Dime displays a rim cud — a major die break at the rim where a piece of the die fractured, creating a raised featureless blob at the coin's edge where the planchet flowed into the void under striking pressure. No cross-reference numbers are known (dated 01/18/2021). The CU-10c designation identifies the denomination (10 cents), with 1968D-01 being the first cataloged cud for this date-mint. Designed by John R. Sinnock, struck at the Denver Mint in copper-nickel clad composition (75% Cu, 25% Ni bonded to pure copper core) at 2.27 grams and 17.91 mm. The 1968-D was among the first Denver Mint dimes to carry a mintmark after the 1965-67 mintmark-less period.
