1967 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-019

Description

Presenting medium spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR, the stars in the circle, and stars between the heraldic eagle's rays, this 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar DDR-019 carries VarietyVista codes UVC-588 and DMR-039. Three die states track the variety's progression: Stage A documents a die gouge through the lower right H of HALF at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) with the obverse also in EMDS, Stage B shows reverse and obverse at MDS, and Stage C remains unconfirmed at LDS. The Stage A die gouge provides an early-state attribution marker that may be less visible or absent on later-stage specimens as the die surface deteriorates. The 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in 40% silver clad composition — the transitional alloy used from 1965 through 1970, consisting of an outer layer of 80% silver bonded to a core of 21% silver, reducing overall silver content from the original 90% while maintaining some precious metal appeal. Critically, the 1967 coin bears no mint mark — all United States coins from 1965 through 1967 were struck without mint marks as part of the Mint's response to the nationwide coin shortage, making it impossible to determine whether a given 1967 half was struck at Philadelphia, Denver, or San Francisco.
