Description

Recorded by Cuds on Coins as CU-5c-1966-02 and cross-referenced in the Jefferson Nickel Cud catalog as JNC-66-6, this 1966 Jefferson Nickel carries a cud on the obverse. Like all coins struck between 1965 and 1967, this nickel bears no mint mark, as the Mint removed mint marks during those years to reduce speculative hoarding during the silver-to-clad transition. The obverse cud appears where a section of the die rim fractured and separated, leaving a raised shapeless area on Jefferson's portrait side of the coin. The JNC cross-reference number places this within a systematic catalog maintained specifically for Jefferson Nickel cuds, reflecting the dedicated collecting community that tracks these errors across the entire series.
